Once the gelcoat is dried a wet coat of resin is applied to ensure the
fiberglass matt will be fully saturated.
Fiberglass matt is then laid on top of the resin soaked gelcoat to strengthen the body of the fish
Once all the matt is laid, it is saturated with fiberglass resin and spread
evenly to reduce air pockets
A roller is then run over the entire mold to eliminate any remaining air bubbles and voids
A bead of talc and resin is run around the entire perimeter of the mold on both halves.
This will ensure a tight bond between the two halves of the mold
Once the bead is run around the mold, it is placed together and clamped tightly
until the talc is dry.
Once dried the clamps are removed and the cast popped out.
The seams are then ground down and filled with a plastic
filler to bring back the natural shape.
Finally the tail is reattached to the body to complete the reconstruction
process. The bill will be molded separately and added to each individual mount.
